It’s been 3 years that I work with children with disabilities here in the United States. I worked as a teacher assistant, home counselor, and now as a behavioral technician.Â
In these years I am amazed how this country takes care of its population with disabilities. These kids have the right to free education, healthcare and treatments, food allowances and economic help for housing and clothing.Â
In addition, all of these benefits are regardless immigration status. I have worked with American citizens, undocumented immigrants and with refugees, and all of them have access to the same opportunities mentioned before.Â
I cannot talk about other countries, but one thing I know for sure; that I haven’t seen this kind of support in my country. Individuals like the ones I work with, don’t have much help of the government. They only get access to education and a life of dignity if their parents have the means for that. Otherwise, they either stay at home or are sent to a psychiatric center. Sadly, they are mostly seen as a public charge.Â
On the other hand, what I perceive here in the U.S. as an immigrant is that they are seen as citizens, members of the society, and what is most important as human beings.Â
People from the United States embrace difference. Therefore, you can see children with autism at the playgrounds, parks, theaters, restaurants, pools and many other places sharing the same space with everyone else.Â
They do it with no one seeing them as someone from another planet. Well maybe some, but not the majority, and the few that are scare of them is just because of ignorance.Â
Furthermore, they are not the only ones that are being taken care from the government, but also the poor and the immigrants. There are plenty of programs from the government and nonprofit organizations that spend millions of dollars in order to help these ones too.Â
[Therefore, I have to say that the current president and a group of radicals don’t represent the national feeling towards the immigrants. This is something that I always leave it clear among my fellow immigrants.]
No one has told me all the facts mentioned before. I have witnessed them with my own eyes since the past seven years.Â
The USA is a big country with a big heart, and it has helped a lot to the one in need. Maybe some of us have taken too much advantage of its kindness, giving reasons to haters to put us all in one big bag, but once again: one person or group doesn’t represent the national feeling. A feeling that is always towards caring for the one in need.Â
For this reason, I have faith that the USA will prevail!!
I say this because before the Hebrews were to become a nation, there were some repetitive directions from God to them: “take care of the poor, the widow, and the immigrant because you were one in the land of Egypt”. I don’t know if this country (USA) was aware of the magnitude of the blessings that come from doing these things, but it has been doing it.Â
I have faith that God will remember this country, because even in these moments of economic collapse due to the pandemic, the government still takes care of the poor, the immigrants, and the people with disabilities.Â
I have faith that God will show us his mercy as a nation, and that the USA will prevail. Well, maybe it won’t do it due to its best relationship with God. If this would be the case, for sure we won’t prevail. It will because once again, it has been obedient on taking care of the poor, the immigrant and anyone in need.Â
In addition, here justice is for all regardless economic and social status, and even skin color. No one, but no one is above the law. There are some that have very good lawyers which is different…
Therefore, as a Christian, I’m sure of this: God will always show his favor to the one who is obedient and fair, and the USA has complied with all of these. Furthermore, I appeal to God for this nation because He promises that He will show himself merciful with the merciful one, and compassionate with the compassionate one. And the USA has also proven to be both.Â
[From Peru I always criticized this country for being unfair, but I didn’t know what I was talking about. In fact, my country and its system are so far away from being fair to everyone as this one is. Over there still matters how much money you have, what is your last name (your parents’ profession), or what is the color of your skin in order to have better opportunities in life and to have justice. I was able to corroborate all of these only few months ago. I was amazed that in seven years since I left, the inequality and injustice increased rather than decreasing…and still, some of us (countries) want to appoint other ones as unfair and unjust.]
Finally, this is my brief in favor of the USA to prevail regardless of what is happening, of what is coming, and of some countries wanting its imminent collapse. These last ones want their neighbor to be judge, but I wonder if they are in better terms before God to be the first ones to throw the stone 🤔. I wonder if they are being fair at least with their own people…
Anyways, my hopes and prayers are in favor of this lovely country.Â
May God Be Merciful🙏🏽 and Bless America! 🇺🇸
